Donut King

We all know of the Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kremes of the world, but Kensington’s Donut King should not be overlooked. The small business has been an important part of my family for the past 19 years. We moved to Kensington in 2001, and our house was conveniently located across the street from the donut shop. My girls, now ages 20 and 17, would come stumbling down the stairs on Saturday mornings, and when they saw the half dozen bag of donuts sitting on the kitchen table their little faces would light up. We each have our favorite donuts, so the girls would dive into the bag knowing their chocolate sprinkle and plain glazed donuts would be there tasting as delicious as always.

When the girls were young and would wake up at the crack of dawn, my husband would bring them with him to pick out which donuts they wanted. The woman serving the donuts always remembered them from our frequent visits to the shop, so occasionally my girls would come home with an extra bag of donut holes. We currently live in Bethesda, but make the occasional trip over to Kensington just to get our much needed donuts. My older daughter worked in Kensington the past couple of summers, and I recently learned how frequently she would visit Donut King on her way to work. I highly recommend, along with my family and friends, that you give this local donut shop a visit.
